Good Medicine Press knows the right story, in the right hands, hold the power of change.
We seek manuscripts that carry genuine necessity for our time; books that need to exist, written by authors who know why. We publish memoir, poetry, literary and genre fiction, creative nonfiction, anthology, YA, picture books, and select business and leadership titles. We are not the right home for horror, gratuitous violence, or work that reproduces tired conventions without reinventing them.
We are a press for all our relations. If a bird or a tree could write a book, we would publish it. We welcome writers of every background, identity, and experience, including allies who are actively working to dismantle the systems that reinforce hierarchy and inequality, the colonial, heteronormative, white-supremacist, capitalist patriarchy. What we ask of every submission is the same: that it honors the dignity of its subject, that it has something genuine to say, and that it says it well.
We center Indigenous voices, women, POC, and historically marginalized storytellers. We are also open to anyone whose work serves that mission. We welcome allies who will engage in this important work.

What We Publish
We accept submissions in the following categories:
- Memoir and personal narrative
- Literary fiction
- Genre fiction — when innovative or from novel perspectives
- Creative nonfiction
- Poetry collections
- Young adult (YA) fiction and nonfiction
- Business and leadership — when it centers equity, healing, or new thought
We do not publish: horror, work with gratuitous violence, or genre fiction that reproduces familiar conventions without expanding them. Romance, thriller, and science fiction are considered only when the work is formally or thematically innovative.

Before You Submit
Please read our Mission and Story before preparing your submission. We ask that every writer who submits understands who we are and what we are building. This is because the best submissions come from writers who have chosen us as deliberately as we choose them.
Good Medicine Press does not charge a submission fee.
We do not pay advances. We profit share with our authors, giving them a higher revenue per copy than traditional publishing.
We publish via print-on-demand distribution through IngramSpark and Amazon, making our titles available to bookstores, libraries, and online retailers. We hold print and digital rights. Audio rights remain with the author, and we encourage authors to pursue audio distribution independently.
We publish what needs to exist; and we take that responsibility seriously.
The right story, in the right hands, at the right moment, can shift consciousness, restore dignity, and change the course of a life.
How To Submit
Submissions are accepted by email only at not currently accepting submissions.
Your submission package should include the following, compiled into one document:
- Query Letter: One page. Tell us what your book is about, why it needs to exist, and why Good Medicine Press is the right home for it. Include a brief synopsis within the query — we want to understand the full arc of the work, not just the premise.
- Chapter Summaries: A brief summary of each chapter or section. These do not need to be long — a couple sentences per chapter for non-fiction. For fiction a plot outline is sufficient. We are looking for structure, intention, and narrative momentum.
- First Ten Pages: The opening ten pages of your manuscript, formatted as follows:
- Double-spaced
- Standard font (Times New Roman, Georgia, or Garamond)
- 12-point font size
- Page numbers included

Do not send your full manuscript at this stage. If we are interested, we will follow up with a full manuscript request.
What Happens Next
We read every submission with care. Response times vary, and we ask for your patience — we are a small press and we give each submission the attention it deserves.
Our average response window is 8–12 weeks.
If we are interested in your work, you will hear from us with a full manuscript request and next steps. If your work is not the right fit for us at this time, we will let you know. We do our best to respond to every submission, though during high-volume periods a non-response after 12 weeks may be considered a pass.
On Rights
Good Medicine Press acquires print and digital publishing rights for the duration of our agreement. Audio rights remain entirely with the author — we do not currently produce audiobooks, and we encourage authors to pursue that avenue independently. Full rights terms are outlined in our publishing agreement, provided upon acceptance.
Simultaneous Submissions
We accept simultaneous submissions. If your manuscript is offered representation or accepted for publication elsewhere while under consideration with us, please notify us promptly so we can update our records. We appreciate the courtesy.
