Who We Are
There is knowing that lives before language.
It is the story your grandmother told—held in the way she moved through a kitchen, the songs she hummed under her breath, the things she survived and the truths she carried in her cells. It is the wisdom that has always lived at the margins, waiting to be named.
Good Medicine Press exists to name it.
A collective of dreamers, readers, thinkers, and poets, who know literature is one of the most powerful forces for healing on earth. We are feminists, spiritual seekers, and new age explorers. We are those who have sat at the knee of a great storyteller and felt something ancient come alive. We are guided by the spirit of voices like bell hooks, Louise Erdrich, Marilynne Robinson, and Michael Singer—and all writers who understand that the deepest truths do not belong to the powerful. They belong to all of us.
We are an independent press, and we intend to stay that way.
Why We Publish
We seek writing the bettering world deserves. Mainstream publishing shies from tales which are too honest, too important, too necessary. Not us. We publish memoir, poetry, fiction, non-fiction, and anthology—whatever form the medicine needs to take.
We know the most specific stories are often the most universal. The margins carry knowledge the center desperately needs. If a tree or a bird could write their stories, we would publish them.
We also publish lean to keep our books accessible. A portion of proceeds goes back to organizations that protect marginalized communities and that build literacy within them. We believe publishing is both a cultural act and a moral one.
At Good Medicine Press, literature is medicine.
The right story, in the right hands, at the right moment, can shift consciousness, restore dignity, and change the course of a life.
What We Seek
We welcome books that carry the courage to challenge oppressive systems and the tenderness to heal what those systems have broken. We welcome grief that opens into grace. We welcome anger that serves awareness. We welcome ideas that linger and wisdom that readers feel as the page turns.
We do not chase trends. We do not replicate the hierarchies we are trying to dismantle.
We publish what needs to exist.
Our readers know that the most specific story is often the most human one, and they are hungry for literature that proves it. They are willing to step into a world different from their own, where their humanity mirrors across difference. Our readers celebrate the full spectrum of expression.
We publish for the reader who does not see herself on the page, who knows her truth deserves to be listened to and celebrated. We publish for the reader who seeks to be entertained and changed.
Our writers are those carrying a story that needs to exist, not just for her own healing, but for everyone who will recognize themselves in it. She has something real and authentic to say. She wants a home that will honor it.

Our Elements – Feather, Flame, Water
Our logo reflects our doctrine.
At its core it is a feather, the oldest writing instrument, pressing memory into form, the symbol of voice and sovereignty. It is the scratch of quill on parchment, the breath made visible, carrying messages between the seen world and the unseen. The feather is the ancestor’s pen, the call into immortality. The prayer. The lift that carries a message on the wind.
The flame of transformation burns red. It illuminates what has been kept in shadow, and clears the ground for what must come next. It does not destroy carelessly, but burns away what no longer serves and makes room for what must come. We publish with this fire. Not rage without direction, but a reverent disruption. A refiner’s crucible. The courage to speak truth to power.
The water curves blue, held in stillness. About to drop. Water remembers. It holds the shape of everything it has touched. It is the element of the body, the womb, the ocean, and the stories that move through generations without ever being written down. The droplet reminds us there is strength in gentleness and flexibility, there is healing in immersion and surrender, and that story, in the right hands, can cleanse, nourish, and restore.
