Wisdom is not a sole voice; it is a chorus.
True wisdom is the inspiration when a scholar sits beside the survivor or when the poet dreams in the language of her elders. It is sometimes unspoken, a truth acknowledged in prayer, or an overheard snippet on a busy train. It comes from all of us, to all of us.
Good Medicine Press publishes anthology projects to assemble this choir, each rooted in a question the world should answer more honestly and more beautifully than it has so far.
- What does it take for men to heal from patriarchy, and how can they?
- How can the world pay attention and give adequate care to the epidemic of missing and murdered Indigenous relatives?
- And what was the real bell hooks, the Gloria Jean Watkins, like apart from her prescient books?
To answer these, we are seeking proposals from writers, thinkers, scholars, poets, and storytellers who have something genuine to contribute.
We are an independent press committed to equity, healing, and the sacred power of story. We do not charge contributors. We do not require academic credentials. We require only honesty, craft, and the courage to say something that matters.

tolling for thee
the bell hooks we knew
A collection of personal stories celebrating the lived life of bell hooks
Anticipated Publication: 2028 | Proposals Due: September 25, 2027
bell hooks changed the way we think. She is quoted near and far. There even is a phone number which will read some of her work aloud to you when called. But this book is not about her inimitable academic legacy. Rather, this is about the moments that don’t show up in lectures and reports.
This is a book on her ideas, but on her humanity. This book is about the way she made people feel. We are gathering personal stories, remembrances, and reflections from those who knew her in quieter moments, when she was not bell hooks, but Gloria Watkins.
Primarily by invitation, though those with a close personal connection to her life and work are warmly encouraged to reach out with a proposal.

She Is Not Gone

Poetry and flash fiction bearing witness to the MMIW crisis
Anticipated Publication: August 2027 | Rolling Submissions Open Now
Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women and Relatives. The crisis has a name. It deserves a literature. It deserves attention and reverence. It deserves justice. Each and every one.
Good Medicine Press is gathering poetry and flash fiction from Native writers that bears witness of, brings awareness to, and honors those who have been taken.
A portion of all proceeds will be donated to organizations doing active MMIW justice work.
The right story, in the right hands, at the right moment, can shift consciousness, restore dignity, and change the course of a life.
